Miller’s practice is fundamentally concerned with the discarded remnants of a rapidly proliferating internet. Internet theory, memes, spam and niche ideological communities are all given equal standing in a practice which seeks to interrogate what it means to ‘exist’ online. Following an extensive period of ethnographic research into incel communities on the surface web, Miller’s practice has shifted focus towards the mechanisms of information distribution which propagate such ideologies. Seemingly innocuous digital/stock images become motifs or backdrops for an emerging body of work which examines both the aesthetic and conceptual ramifications for a population which is just as fluent in memetic vocabulary as it is in language itself. Recent work has included inquiry into web-based AI image-manipulation tools, using the output as raw material for a more targeted investigation into the outcomes of such tools being so readily available, as well as the eroding public relationship to truth that is inevitable in the face of such artificial visual onslaught. Working across painting, installation, video, sculpture and digital, Miller’s practice seeks to explore the role and value of the image in contemporary society.
